Regulations from the state of Maryland require all municipalities with planning and zoning powers to enact and enforce minimum livability standards. In response to this mandate, the Easton Town Council has passed Resolution No. 309, which creates a Rental Housing Program. Under this program, owners of Rental properties within the Town of Easton are required to apply for a Rental Housing License and pay a fee of $25.00 per unit per year. Rental units will undergo periodic inspections to assure compliance with the Town of Easton Housing Code (Sections 13A-1 to 13A-8) and the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC))and various amendments as approved by the Town Council.
As part of the Town's continuing effort to improve neighborhoods within the Town of Easton, the Town has adopted the International Property Maintenance Code. The provision of this code shall apply to all existing residential and nonresidential structures and premises and constitute minimum requirements and standards for premises, structures, equipment and facilities for light, ventilation, space, heating, sanitation, protection from the elements, life safety, safety from fire and other hazards, and for safe and sanitary maintenance; the responsibility of owners, operators and occupants; the occupancy of existing structures and premises, and for administration, enforcement and penalties.
