Subject: Big Box moratorium

Don't let Easton succumb to sprawl. The unique regional character of

numerous cities and small towns across the country has been obliterated

by

the spread of large scale retail development in the form of shopping malls

and strip malls that feature big box and national chain retailers. As these

retailers build on vacant land on the outskirts of town, the detrimental

effects of development such as increased traffic and congestion and soon

become apparent. Long term issues such as the degradation of the

environment and the homogenization of America are often more subtly felt.

Convenient shopping is an asset; however, in the long run, preserving the

character of our small town and rural landscape far outweighs the quick

shopping fix.

Sincerely,

Jean Wortman
