Subject: Big Boxes

Dear Mr. Karge,

We are very concerned citizens of Talbot County who have downloaded the

information from the website about the big box moratorium. We are pleased

that the moratorium was put into effect to investigate some of the issues

involved with these mega stores. It is our hope that Easton/Talbot County

can provide NEEDED goods and services to the residents of Talbot County

while PROTECTING and ENHANCING the existing positive physical properties and

quality of life of this still rural area. It was shocking to read in the

Star Democrat that many people in Talbot County had the view that "quality

of life" could be defined by the accessability of cheap shopping facilities.

We feel that this is the view of only a small fraction of the citizens of

this area. Most people we talk to do not feel that Easton should be turned

into a major urban center of the shore and lose it's appeal as one of the

best small towns in America. Traffic has become progressively worse in the

last nine years, even without these big box stores. Just try turning left

onto St. Michaels road from Unionville Road on a school morning if you don't

believe it. Dan is an environmental scientist concerned with degradation of

water quality in the Chesapeake Bay region. Non-point source pollution from

impermeable surfaces (i.e., large parking lots) are a major source of

pollution to the region's waters. We hope all of these concerns are

addressed prior to a final decision on these big box stores. As you can

tell ,we are not in favor of these "monstrocities," and would like our

concerns to be put into the record.

Thanks for your time and hard work on this issue.

Sincerely, Liz and Dan Fisher, Tunis Mills
