Lieutenant Mark R. Waltrup

Lt. Mark R. Waltrup began his career with the Easton Police Department August 19, 1993. Prior to beginning his career in Law Enforcement, Lt. Waltrup served his Country in the U.S. Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division for four years. He also served six years in the U.S. Army National Guard in the Light Infantry Unit. Lt. Waltrup was honorably discharged in 1996 from the National Guard. After graduating from the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy in December 1993, Lt. Waltrup began working as a patrol officer. He was then moved to the Community Policing Unit where he served as a bike patrol officer. He was promoted to and served as an assistant squad supervisor from 1997 through 1998, and later promoted as the squad supervisor.

Lt. Waltrup was then moved to the Criminal Investigation Division where he served as a Detective and was then was promoted to supervisor of the Criminal Investigation Division. He has served the Department in the Criminal Investigation Division for the past nine years and currently serves as the Commander for the Special Operations Unit. Lt. Waltrup serves as a member of the Special Weapons Team (SWAT) as the team commander. He has served in many capacities for the Department to include; the rules and regulations committee, field training officer, evidence collection officer, awards committee and the employee benefit board. Lt. Waltrup oversees the recruiting process for hiring new police officers. He attended and graduated from the Maryland Institute of Criminal Justice as a polygraph operator and he serves as one of the Department’s polygraph operators. Lt. Waltrup has attended many specialized training courses during his fifteen years of service with the Department. He attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy, 216th Session in March 2004. Lt. Waltrup currently serves as the Special Operations Division Commander.
