Honor Guard
Return to Specialized Units

The Easton Police Department Honor Guard Unit was formed in 1998 under the direction of Chief of Police George M. Harvey. The unit was formed with six members who volunteered their time to the Unit. At the present time three of the original officers continue to serve while the Unit has expanded to 9 officers.

The Honor Guard Unit has attended funeral services for fallen officers in the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington D.C. Members of the Unit have participated yearly in the Candlelight Vigil and National Police Officers Memorial services, held annually in Washington D.C., as well as Maryland Fallen Heroes Day services held in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Honor Guard Unit has participated in local parades, Memorial and Veterans Day Services, and various civic and Department events. The Honor Guard was also invited to attend and participated in the 2004 Hoboken, New Jersey St. Patrick's Day Parade. The Unit has also participated in funeral services of local dignitaries and for retired officers.

Easton Police Officers Frampton, Larrimore, Fellon and Lee attended the National Police Officers Memorial Service in front of the U. S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C., May 15, 2004. President George W. Bush was the keynote speaker for the event.

This class has been approved by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission for 18 hours of in-service credit.

The Honor Guard Unit conducts training on a monthly basis and its members have attended training by other Agencies as a way to hone and increase their skills. In 2003 the Honor Guard Unit planned and conducted it's first regional training program which has been continued since. During the month of October, a three day training conference is held at the Calhoon MEBA Engineering School in Easton where officers have received instruction in the areas of;

      • Color Teams/Marching
      • Rifle Volleys
      • Casket Details
      • Flag Folding
      • Funeral Details

The 5th annual training conference was a huge success. The class for 2008 has been scheduled for October 15-17, 2008.

Cost for this training is $150.00 per officer. Agencies sending 5 or more officers can send 1 free. Class size is limited to 50 officers. Attendees recieve a conference giveaway. Lunch is provided at no extra cost. Days 1 and 2 are spent in "hands on" training breakout sessions. Day three consists of a hands on "mock funeral". Certificates of attendance are also provided. We also provide a barbeque/crab feast with refreshments on the second night after training.
