The
Easton Police Department has maintained a full service Evidence Collection Unit
(ECU) since 1989. Officers trained as Evidence Collectors received training
through the Baltimore City Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit. Officers received
training in the areas of fingerprint recovery, the collection of DNA samples,
tool marks, gun shot residue, photography, casting of tire tracks, and blood
spatter patterns, to name a few. Officers received in the field experience by
observing murder and other crime scenes. Evidence gathered by these officers
is then analyzed and sent to either the Maryland State Police Crime Lab in Pikesville,
Md., or to the FBI’s crime lab.
