Police Board Meeting

 

February 4, 2008

 

PRESENT AT CONVENING

IN ATTENDANCE

 

Also in attendance were Mayor Willey, Town Manager Robert Karge, Town Clerk Mrs. Ruf, Chief Blue and Major Spencer. Members of the Easton Police Department present were Officers Frank Creegan, George Paugh and Lennox Trams.

 

CONVENING

 

At 6:35 p.m., the President of the Council called the meeting to order.

 

MEETING

 

Chief Blue reported on the progress of the proposed addition to the Easton Police Department building. Major Spencer distributed a rendition from Becker Morgan. Chief Blue discussed an upcoming meeting that would include the architect, Chris Evans and members of the IT Department from Easton Utilities.

 

Major Spencer stated that the target date for completed drawings is June, bidding process in July and commence construction in August.

 

Chief Blue discussed the possible purchase of Talbot County’s ambulance that will be going out of service and replacement patrol cars.

 

Officer Creegan was present on behalf of FOP. He asked the Council to confirm the fact that their current retirement program would stay intact. Officer Creegan also approached the Council regarding the actuary report necessary to estimate costs for the LEOPS program. He stated that if the Town is serious about trying to get into the program, FOP is willing to pay the entire cost of the actuary report which is approximately $5,500 to $5,800.

 

Mr. Jensen stated that in round numbers it would be necessary to fund LEOPS with an additional $300,000. Officer Creegan stated that it would be closer to $400,000.

 

Mr. Ford stated that it would be necessary to have a full council present to discuss the actuarial study.

 

Mr. Jensen stated that he thought it would be necessary to look at all the employees’ benefits as a whole.

 

At 7:08 p.m., Officer Creegan and Chief Blue departed the meeting.

 

ADJOURNMENT

 

The President of the Council adjourned the Police Board meeting at 7:08 p.m.
