Police Board Meeting
February 5, 2007
Also in attendance were Town Manager, Robert Karge, Town Clerk Kathy Ruf, and Major David Spencer.
At 6:16 p.m., the President of the Council called the meeting to order.
ANONYMOUS COMPLAINT
Due to no statistical accident information, there is no reason to merit changes for cars exiting the Goodwill Store. Public Works will look at the signage and make a recommendation how to better post the restrictions.
PERSONNEL ISSUES
Major Spencer discussed police officer positions and the resignation of Pfc. Hines. He stated that Joshua Merrick and Timothy Stasny have been hired and are currently attending the police academy. Ms. Ashlie Dyott has been hired for the PCO position. Mr. Wayne Carels retired January 16, 2007 and Mr. Joseph Fonti has been hired for Mr. Carels position.
Major Spencer stated that EPD plans to ask for five additional dispatchers in the upcoming budget in order to go to two dispatchers on each shift. Major Spencer invited the Mayor and Council to view the dispatch operations.
The Corporal promotion exam will be administered in April to establish an eligibility list. There are 13 officers eligible to be promoted but no positions available.
Lt. Michael Henry is attending the 228th Session of the FBI National Academy and will graduate March 16. Lt. Henry is the fourth officer currently on staff to attend the FBI Academy.
Pfc. Lisa Phillips has been selected as the new K-9 officer and will attend training in North Carolina where she will receive her dog in March. K-9 Marco will be retired. Sgt. Hughes will return to patrol duties but will supervise the K-9 unit.
NEW PATROL VEHICLES
Easton Police Department has accepted the delivery of two new vehicles equipped with the new LED light bars. All patrol cars including the K-9 vehicles have been equipped with the new laptops and video cameras.
WEAPONS
The handgun order has not arrived.
BUILDING SECURITY
Easton Police has been working with Mayor Willey and Mr. Hause in getting bids for fencing to improve security around the department. Rear parking area of the building will not be accessible for public parking and will be restricted to department personnel only.
ANNUAL AWARDS CEREMONY
The Easton Police Department Annual Awards Ceremony will be held at the Avalon Theatre on March 6 at 7:00 p.m.
DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY
Officers served 21 search and seizure warrants and arrested 48 adults and 3 juveniles for drug activity. Discussion occurred regarding the location of the search warrants.
Mr. Wendowski discussed complaints regarding motorists driving over culverts on Wayside Avenue.
Major Spencer stated that Lt. Wright and Lt. Waltrup are working with school officials and attending workshops regarding safety.
