TOWN OF EASTON, MARYLAND
Police Board Meeting
November 6, 2006
Also in attendance were Town Clerk Robert Karge, Chief Ben Blue and Major David Spencer.
At 6:18 p.m., the President of the Council called the meeting to order.
PERSONNEL ISSUES
Two police officer positions are open, one PCO position and one receptionist position. The lieutenant promotional process established an eligibility list with three candidates. The Department currently does not have any lieutenant positions open.
Mr. Wayne Carels has given verbal notice of his plans to retire. There are three applicants being considered. Mr. Daubach is interested in training for meter repairs.
LAPTOPS
About 90% of the officers have been trained on the use of the laptops and in-car video camera.
NEW PATROL VEHICLES
The delivery of two new vehicles is expected in December. These are replacements that were in the budget.
WEAPONS
Chief Blue reported that carbines are in and handguns are expected after the first of the year.
DEPARTMENT HOLIDAY PARTY
The Department party is scheduled for December 23 at the Moose Lodge from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The Mayor and Council is invited.
NEVIN POTTER CASE
MSP conducted an investigation and concluded no wrongdoing. The State’s Attorney reviewed MSP’s findings and agreed. This case is considered closed.
OFFICER ALVIN DILL
Completed his Comparative Compliance Portion of the Academy except the 1st Responder’s Class. Officer Dill is scheduled to receive remedial training and will re-test.
WATERFOWL
Operation Orders are complete. The loading and unloading zones will be in effect.
NATIONAL FBI ACADEMY
Lt. Mike Henry has been accepted into the National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Lt. Henry will attend an informational meeting Wednesday for the January class.
PRESENCE OF GANGS
Mr. Wendowski asked if there is proof of gangs in Easton. Discussion occurred regarding their presence.
ADJOURNMENT
The President of the Council adjourned the Police Board meeting at 6:55 p.m.
