Also in attendance was Major Spencer, Assistant to the Town Engineer Mr. Hause, Long Range Planner Mr. Thomas and Town Clerk Robert Karge.

 

CONVENING

 

At 7:00 p.m., the President of the Council, Mr. Ford called the meeting to order.

 

Ms. Jackson-Amis opened the meeting with prayer and led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF JUNE 19, 2006 MEETINGS

 

Upon motion by Ms. Jackson-Amis seconded by Ms. Scott-Taylor, minutes were approved unanimously as amended by Ms. Jackson-Amis.

 

ITEMS BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT

 

Mr. Jensen presented the June report and discussed the kitchen repairs.

 

MS. SHARON ELLIS, TALBOT COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION TO PRESENT MAYOR WITH CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION

 

Ms. Ellis discussed the celebration of National Parks and Recreation Month that started 20 years ago. On behalf of the County Council of Talbot County and the Talbot County Parks and Recreation Department, Ms. Ellis presented Mayor Willey with a Certificate of Appreciation for his support and efforts.

 

ITEMS BY MAYOR WILLEY

 

Mayor briefed on an upcoming meeting with Delegate Haddaway and SHA scheduled for July 13 at 10:00 a.m.

 

Mr. Kehoe has advised Mayor Willey that the proposed annexation of Port Street is moving along.

 

Church of God collected over $400 to go towards additional safety equipment for the Easton Skate Park participants.

 

Mr. Drew Jensen has asked on behalf of the Easton Volunteer Fire Department that a meeting be held with Stoney Ridge and Easton Club East to discuss Dutchman’s Lane intersection improvements now that Royal Farms has started. Mayor Willey asked Mr. Hause to speak with Mr. Clarke from the county, police department, fire department and interested neighborhood associations to discuss impending improvements.

 

(Mr. Jensen arrived at 7:04 p.m.)

 

Ms. Jackson-Amis asked for a breakdown regarding income from the Farmer’s Market from the Economic Development Coordinator as well as a percentage of farmers that are from the area versus out of town vendors.

 

MEMO FROM MAYOR WILLEY REGARDING APPOINTMENT TO PARKS AND RECREATIONS BOARD

 

Ms. Scott-Taylor made a motion to approve Mayor Willey’s appointment of Mr. Parks to the Parks and Recreation Board seconded by Mr. Jensen and carried unanimously.

 

ITEMS BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT

 

Major Spencer discussed gang related activities.

 

Ms. Jackson-Amis asked if a concerned citizen can post sex offender signs stating that there is a violator in the neighborhood. Major Spencer directed Ms. Jackson-Amis to the sheriff’s department for further questions.

 

ITEMS BY THE ASSISTANT TO THE TOWN ENGINEER

 

Mr. Hause has submitted a grant application for the next section of the rails-to-trails from Earle Landing to Douglass Landing.

 

Mr. Hause updated on storm damage. He stated that there was approximately 11 inches of rain in Easton. Mr. Hause estimated damages to be in the $3,000 to $5,000 range. He suggested any emergency be directed to Easton Police Department and they will make the appropriate call.

 

ITEMS BY THE TOWN PLANNER

 

Mr. Thomas, Long Range Planner stated that there are no items for the upcoming Board of Appeals meeting. The Planning Commission’s agenda for their July 20th meeting include:

Upon motion by Mr. Jensen seconded by Ms. Scott-Taylor and carried unanimously; the President of the Council adjourned the regularly scheduled Council meeting at 7:28 p.m.
