Fire Board Meeting

Also in attendance were Town Clerk Robert Karge, and the Fire Department Trustees, Mr. Kelly Jones, and Mr. Larry Fike.
At 6:30 p.m., the President of the Council called the meeting to order.
MEETING
Mr. Kelly Jones discussed the fire at the McDaniel House that broke out this evening.
Mr. Jones updated the Council on siren concerns. He stated that county wide, the sirens have been cut back from a two minute cycle to a one minute cycle and the sirens will not be activated after 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. unless it is a structure fire or Talbot Center deems it necessary to get more manpower. He stated that this took effect August 1.
Testing of hose and replacement was discussed.
Mr. Jones stated that the signal at the substation is up but not functional.
Mayor Willey stated that Dr. Sanchez also has concerns regarding the siren.
Mr. Jones asked for the Council’s permission to appoint a committee to look at the replacement of Engine 64 which is on the 20 year plan. He stated that it will be approximately $600,000. The design phase will be 8 to 12 months. Mr. Jones stated that they may consider a smaller Tower due to residential growth.
It was the council consensus for the Fire Department to appoint a committee to design a new engine.
Ms. Jackson-Amis discussed the need for a new truck. She asked why the Council should be considering a new ladder if there are two more good years left on Engine 64.
