Police Board Meeting

January 3, 2005

PRESENT AT CONVENING

 

President John F. Ford                         Councilmember Leonard E. Wendowski, Sr.

                                                                        Councilmember Moonyene Jackson-Amis        

 

IN ATTENDANCE

 

Also in attendance were Town Clerk Robert Karge, Chief of Police M.J. Blue and Major Spencer.

 

CONVENING

 

At 6:00 p.m., the President of the Council called the meeting to order.

 

At 6:03 p.m., Councilmember Moonyene Jackson-Amis arrived.

 

PERSONNEL

 

Chief Blue advised that they have two officers that recently graduated from the Academy December 20. He stated that they are in field training which will take about eight weeks. He stated that they also have the five recruits he introduced at the Council meeting which will be reporting to the Academy January 10.

 

Chief Blue stated that PCO Amanda Figueiredo has tendered her resignation. Her last day will be January 11 due to her husband’s reassignment to Texas. Her replacement is Ms. Edie Mansfield that started December 27.

 

Chief Blue stated that Major Spencer will be heading a board to interview officers that have submitted letters of interest.

 

Chief Blue stated that the department intends to identify someone to be assigned to the Task Force in the near future.

 

VEHICLE ACCIDENT

 

Chief Blue advised that due to a recent accident, a vehicle had to be replaced. He stated that due to the transfer of funds and the replacement value for the totaled vehicle, the department was able to purchase three vehicles from a local dealership.

 

AWARDS CEREMONY

 

Chief Blue stated that the Annual Awards Ceremony has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 22 at the Avalon Theatre at 7:00 p.m.

 

Major Spencer stated that invitations will be forthcoming.

 

FIRST NIGHT

 

Mr. Ford asked how First Night went. Chief Blue stated that the crab dropped as planned and everything went well.

 

Chief Blue stated that the Departmental Christmas party was well attended.

 

COUNCIL COMMENTS

 

Mr. Wendowski extended thanks to Chief Blue and Lt. Wright for action on Sawgrass Court.

 

Ms. Scott-Taylor stated that her neighbors are complaining about drivers running stop signs on Sycamore and Diamond.

 

Chief Blue asked what time of day would be most effective.

 

Ms. Scott-Taylor stated that it seems to be people going to and from work. She discussed children in the area and her concern for their safety.

 

Discussion occurred regarding the number of accidents at Dutchman’s Lane and Route 50. Major Spencer stated that they found from a survey that most of the accidents that occurred there were local drivers.

 

Discussion occurred regarding the schedule of Police Board meetings.

 

ADJOURNMENT

 

Upon unanimous consensus, the President of the Council adjourned the Police Board meeting at 6:13 p.m.
