Fire Board Meeting

November 15, 2004

IN ATTENDANCE

 

Also in attendance were Town Clerk Robert Karge, from the Fire Department, Mr. Jim Prettyman, Mr. Gary Ball, Mr. Phil Marshal, Mr. Tim Knotts, Chief Russell Miles, Mr. Kelly Jones and Mr. Duane Pippin.

 

CONVENING

 

At 6:00 p.m., the President of the Council called the meeting to order.

 

UPDATE ON SUBSTATION

 

Discussion occurred on the substation.

 

Mr. Jim Prettyman stated that their substation construction chairman is Ken Bush and he is in Florida. Mr. Prettyman stated that there is a meeting Wednesday with Utilities and JOB Construction as well as a couple members of the Fire Department. He stated that there is an agenda and a progress report.

 

COMMENTS

 

It was the consensus of the Fire Department that the 800 megahertz is working very well.

 

Mr. Ford asked if the rapport with the Police Department had improved. It was the consensus of the Department that the relationship has improved.

 

The Fire Department’s involvement with site plan reviews was discussed. The width of roads in developments was a concern.

 

Mr. Ford stated that he will talk with the Town Planner regarding the Fire Department’s interaction with Planning and Zoning.

 

Mr. Wendowski stated that the width of the streets is being reduced to control traffic. He stated that concern is not taken about parked vehicles and the necessity to put a fire truck down the street in the case of an emergency.

 

Mr. Wendowski asked about the progress on the cupola.

 

Mayor Willey stated that it is finished and ready to go back up.

 

Mr. Prettyman stated that Warren’s portion is completed. He stated that the committee is deciding how to put it back.

 

Chief Russel Miles stated that this will be his last Fire Board meeting as his term as Chief will be finished in January. He thanked the Mayor and Council for their support. Chief Miles was thanked for his service.

 

Discussion occurred on the repairs to the Tower truck.  The bill for repairs was for $18,000 and was the first major bill for the truck in 15 years. Most of the work was to make sure the truck could be certified.

 

ADJOURNMENT

 

Upon unanimous consensus, the President of the Council adjourned the Fire Board meeting at 6:14 p.m.
