Police Board Meeting
May 3, 2004

Also in attendance were Town Clerk Robert Karge and Chief of Police George M. Harvey.
At 6:00 p.m., the President of the Council called the meeting to order. The President of the Council reviewed the agenda.
COMMENTS BY CHIEF HARVEY
Chief Harvey updated on the Talbot County Drug Task Force and Easton Police Department’s participation in that. Chief Harvey stated that resources are provided as needed at the request of the Task Force. Chief Harvey reported that they are working on a new Memorandum of Understanding. He stated that he has requested a mission statement from the Task Force and a standardized set of rules and regulations to work under. He discussed safety and liability issues. Chief Harvey stated that it is his opinion that given the current circumstances, it is not beneficial for Easton Police Department to have any members in the Task Force but we do provide resources as needed.
Mr. Wendowski asked if Council members can be notified when there is a major problem such as the recent dance/riot.
Chief Harvey stated that this is not a problem.
Discussion occurred regarding the large assembly at the Waterfowl Festival building and the lack of a Public Assembly Permit.
Mrs. Scott-Taylor arrived at 6:11 p.m.
Discussion occurred regarding the request by Chamber Music Festival to close Dover Road 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on a Friday, June 11 with champagne served under an awning.
Mr. Jensen arrived at 6:16 p.m.
Discussion occurred regarding the Police Department’s requested budget. Chief Harvey stated that the requested budget is what is necessary to operate.
The Town Clerk stated that the biggest piece of the budget is salary and benefits.
Chief Harvey discussed the loss of two cruisers over the weekend and injuries of two police officers. He stated that he has also received three police officers’ resignations. He discussed pay scales for surrounding departments.
ADJOURNMENT
Upon unanimous consensus, the President of the Council adjourned the Police Board meeting at 6:39 p.m.
