Fire Board Meeting

February 17, 2004

IN ATTENDANCE

 

Also in attendance were Town Clerk Robert Karge, from the Fire Department Chief Russel Miles, Vice President Kelly Jones, Trustee Phil Marshall, Trustee David Tims, Trustee Tom Murphy and Trustee Ken Bush.

 

CONVENING

 

At 6:07 p.m., the President of the Council called the meeting to order. Mr. Ford discussed procedures for this meeting. He asked that items for the agenda be forwarded to the Town Clerk no later than the end of the day on Thursday prior to the Fire Board meeting. Members present introduced themselves and their titles.

 

SUBSTATION UPDATE

 

Mr. Ford asked for an update on the substation.

 

Mr. Bush stated that it is back in the hands of the Town. He stated that he is not aware of the status.

 

Mayor Willey informed that the contract has been signed; paperwork has been done and the Town Engineer is ready to sign the Notice to Proceed.

 

Mr. Bush stated that they hope to break ground in March.

 

ITEMS FROM MAYOR WILLEY

 

Mayor Willey asked about the status of the bell project.

 

Mr. Jones stated that he believes that a contract has been signed but they are waiting on a date to actually come in to remove the bell.

 

Chief Miles discussed the process.

 

COMMENTS FROM THE COUNCIL

 

Mr. Wendowski asked how the lock box ordinance was progressing.

 

Chief Miles briefed on the Knox Box system. He discussed the county’s automatic alarm ordinance. The Town Clerk was asked to contact County Manager Andy Hollis to get the actual ordinance.

 

Discussion occurred regarding fines for automatic alarms and the necessity to respond and wait for owners.

 

Ms. Scott-Taylor thanked the Fire Department for their efforts at the Cherry’s fire.

 

Mr. Ford thanked the Department for their annual Appreciation Dinner.

 

COMMUNITY DINNER

 

Kelly Jones discussed the community dinner to benefit Cherry’s. He stated that the flyer is misleading and the dinner is not being sponsored by the Fire Department but a citizens’ group.

 

Mrs. Scott-Taylor asked the Department if they wanted to do the wheel or a 50/50 to raise money at the Cherry’s Community Dinner. Mrs. Scott-Taylor stated that she will have Marie U’ren contact Carol Prettyman at the EVFD for the final details.

 

Chief Miles discussed the memorial service for Carter Smith which will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Fire Department. Mr. Miles stated that he was a paid fireman in Jacksonville, Florida but was from Easton and his father is a retired Easton Town Police officer.

 

ADJOURNMENT

 

Upon unanimous consensus, the President of the Council adjourned the Police Board meeting at 6:37 p.m.
