Task Force Meeting

February 9, 1998

The President of the Council called the meeting of the interested citizens to order at 6:30 P.M. at the Town Office. The following Council members were present: Mr. Mayer, Mrs. Clem and Mr. Heinmuller. Also attending the meeting were the Mayor, Chief of Police Col. Chase and Cpl. Wright.

Discussion occurred concerning issues raised and many of the mechanisms already in place.

Cpl. Wright briefed those present on some of the actions taken by the community policing members. Discussion occurred as to the number of police officers on the street at any given time and neighborhood organizations and crime watches as well as activity levels.

Discussion occurred concerning litter and graffiti as well as actions taken.

Mrs. Clem discussed her own experiences recently and how her situation could have been prevented.

Discussion occurred concerning community policing concepts as well as public relations efforts which would be needed.

Discussion occurred concerning notices and lack of responses and complaints.

Public Relations efforts were discussed and various methods which could be used. Discussion occurred concerning the police consistently asking for calls as well as information maintained as well as the best way to get information out.

Crime prevention efforts were discussed. Allocation of police officers were discussed. The crossover of enforcement activities were discussed. The desire for zero tolerance was discussed.

The President of the Council stated that another meeting will be set in approximately three weeks to go into this matter in more detail.

The Mayor and Mr. Heinmuller departed the meeting at 7:30 P.M. to attend a Fire Board meeting.

The President of the Council closed the meeting at approximately 7:35 P.M.
