The Town Council of the Town of Easton met today at 7:00 P.M. The meeting was called to order by the President with the following members present: Mr. Ford, Mr. Mayer and Mrs. Clem. Also attending the meeting were the Mayor, Chief of Police and various police officers.

Discussion followed over enhancements the police officers would like to see made to the Sworn Police Officer's Pension Plan. The President of the Council summarized these matters as:

Desire of the police officers to drop the 80 point plan and to move to a straight 25 year plan.

The police officers would like to see the benefit formula based on 50% of the final years earnings.

The police officers would like to see the current grade step system changed.

The civilian employees of the Police Department would be included in the same pension plan.

Military time or previous police service could be included or bought back by the officers.

Various discussion occurred on the grade step system and the history behind that. Discussion occurred on the concept of dropping the grade step table and moving to a merit based system. This was not viewed as desirable by the police officers. Discussion also occurred on the concept of using vacation accrual towards earlier retirement as well as sick days increasing and allowing that to apply towards early retirement.

There were a total of fourteen officers present.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:00 P.M.
