
Chief Melbourne J. “Ben” Blue began his career with the Easton Police Department July 22, 1980, after teaching physical education at Easton High School for seven years. Upon graduating from the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy in 1980, he served as road patrol officer, and as an assistant squad supervisor. Chief Blue served as a member of the Department’s Special Weapons Team (SWAT) from 1981 through 1989. He attended polygraph school and became the department’s first polygraph examiner in 1988 and was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division. From 1988 through 1995 he was assigned as the Criminal Investigations Division Commander. He then served as the Operations Division Commander from 1995 through July 2004, when he was appointed as the Chief of Police by Mayor Robert C. Willey.
Chief Blue holds a Bachelors degree in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy, 167th session in 1991. Chief Blue has proudly served the citizens of the Town of Easton, where he lives with his wife Edna. Chief Blue was involved with the Easton Little League and Senior League while his sons were involved in the Town’s youth sports program, as well as, coaching indoor soccer for the YMCA youth program. He has also been a chairman for the Star Democrat Brighter Christmas Fund.
